Du mardi 20 au vendredi 30 octobre 2020 se tiendra le Laboratoire performance au cours duquel sera présenté des performances par les artistes Tatiana Koroleva et Diyar Mayil. Le Laboratoire performance a été commissariée par le comité de performance, il se déroulera à la fois dans la vitrine de la galerie et en ligne.
Les artistes de performance Diyar Mayil et Tatiana Koroleva s’intéressent à la notion du corps au sein des discours féministes. Chacune explore, à sa propre manière, les thèmes du corps, de la mémoire et de l’identité à l’intérieur d’un contexte politique, social et culturel. Ces performances se construisent lentement par des gestes à la fois doux et bruts mettant en lumière diverse injustices et violences faites aux personnes s’identifiant comme femmes.
Du 20 au 23 octobre 2020, l’artiste Diyar Mayil présentera son projet Femmestatistics, une performance de longue durée qui prendra fin sous forme d’installation sculpturale. Chaque jour de 12h à 16h, l’artiste performera dans la vitrine de la galerie et pourra être vue depuis l’extérieur. De plus, un fragment de la performance sera diffusé en ligne, chaque jour pendant une heure sur Facebook, à 14h.
Femmestatistics est un dialogue entre les statistiques de masse et l’unicité des corps qui prend vie sous la forme d’un boulier massif qui permet de compter avec des mèches et des touffes de cheveux à la place des billes traditionnelles. Avec l’interaction de l’impossibilité de compter une quantité considérable de cheveux et le dysfonctionnement du boulier, cette pièce questionne la façon dont la société interprète et comprend les divers crimes corporels qui se produisent chaque jour. Avec la performance de compter les cheveux, l’objectif est de mettre en évidence le dysfonctionnement du boulier, obligeant les spectateurs à trouver de nouvelles façons de donner du sens aux données. La performance démontre l’insuffisance du boulier en s’engageant dans plusieurs méthodes de comptage échoué. L’artiste-compteuse deviendra épuisée, confuse, et désorientée, ouvrant de nouvelles zones d’engagement dans le vide laissé par ces échecs.
Du 27 au 30 octobre 2020, l’artiste Tatiana Koroleva présentera une série de quatre performances abordant l’histoire de l’oppression des femmes en URSS basées sur l’histoire familiale de l’artiste. Chaque jour, l’artiste performera dans la vitrine de la galerie et pourra être vue depuis l’extérieur. De plus, un fragment de la performance sera diffusé en ligne, chaque jour pendant trente minutes sur Facebook, à 14h.
Lors de ces quatre jours, elle présentera quatre performances – My Predecessors had a Hard Look (2016), The Bread of my Foremothers (2017), Red 80s – Wild 90s (2019) et Wandering Women (2019), chacune explorant les mémoires ancestrales en relation avec l’histoire soviétique. Par la reconstitution symbolique des événements de la vie de son arrière-grand-mère maternelle, sa grand-mère et sa mère, l’artiste aborde les sujets du traumatisme intergénérationnel, de l’oppression historique et des façons multiples dont le passé continue d’influencer notre présent. Chacune des quatre performances se déroule comme une série d’épisodes de narration, visant à donner la parole à ces femmes qui ont été réduites au silence au cours de leur vie.

Performance artists Diyar Mayil and Tatiana Koroleva are interested in the notion of body within feminist discourses. Each explores, in their own way, the themes of body, memory and identity within a political, social and cultural context. These performances are slowly constructed through gestures that are both gentle and raw, and highlight various injustices and violence against people who identify as women.
From October 20 to 23, 2020, the artist Diyar Mayil will present her project Femmestatistics, a performance of endurance that will take form as a sculptural installation at the end. Every day from 12pm to 4pm, the artist will perform in the gallery’s window showcase and can be seen from the outside. In addition, a fragment of the performance will be broadcasted online, each day for one hour on Facebook, at 2pm.
Femmestatistics is a dialogue between mass statistics and the uniqueness of bodies that comes to life in the form of a massive abacus that can be counted with locks and tufts of hair instead of traditional marbles. With the interaction of the inability to count a considerable amount of hair and the malfunctioning of the abacus, this piece questions how society interprets and understands the various bodily crimes that occur every day. With the performance of counting hair, the goal is to highlight the dysfunction of the abacus, forcing the audience to find new ways to make sense of the data. The performance demonstrates the inadequacy of the abacus by engaging in several failed counting methods. The artist-counter will become exhausted, confused, and disoriented, opening up new areas of engagement in the void left by these failures.
From October 27 to 30, 2020, artist Tatiana Koroleva will present a series of four performances addressing the history of women’s oppression in the USSR based on the artist’s family history. Each day, the artist will perform in the gallery’s window showcase and can be seen from the outside. In addition, a fragment of the performance will be broadcasted online, every day for thirty minutes on Facebook, at 2pm.
During these four days, she will present four performances – My Predecessors had a Hard Look (2016), The Bread of my Foremothers (2017), Red 80s – Wild 90s (2019) and Wandering Women (2019), each exploring ancestral memories in relation to Soviet history. Through the symbolic reconstruction of events in the life of her maternal great-grandmother, grandmother and mother, the artist addresses the subjects of intergenerational trauma, historical oppression and the multiple ways in which the past continues to influence our present. Each of the four performances unfolds as a series of narrative episodes, aiming to give voice to these women who have been silenced in their lives.
