Cet évènement a lieu dans le cadre de l’exposition Extraction Out of Frame de Sanaz Sohrabi, présentée à VOX jusqu’au 4 mars 2023.

À l’occasion de cette table ronde entre l’artiste Sanaz Sohrabi, Siobhan Angus, docteure en histoire de l’art et Ishita Tiwary, docteure en études cinématographiques, les intervenantes aborderont la relation unissant la pétromodernité à l’image photographique et filmique en tant qu’incarnations technologiques du regard colonial dans le cadre des opérations de la société British Petroleum en Asie.

Elles s’appuieront sur les recherches approfondies de l’artiste dans les archives de la BP pour analyser les liens entre l’économie politique de la photographie, les technologies d’archivage et l’histoire visuelle de l’industrie extractive en Iran. Sanaz Sohrabi approfondira ainsi les thèmes explorés dans son film-essai Scenes of Extraction et dans l’installation Extraction Out of Frame, créés spécialement pour VOX.

Présenté en collaboration avec le Raah-Media and Migration Lab, Concordia University.

Visualizing Extraction. A Round Table

This event is held as part of Sanaz Sohrabi’s exhibition Extraction Out of Frame, on view at VOX until March 4, 2023.

During this round table between artist Sanaz Sohrabi, Siobhan Angus, Ph.D., and Ishita Tiwary, Ph.D., the discussants will address petromodernity’s relationship with photography and film as embodied technologies of coloniality during the operations of British Petroleum in Asia.

They will further engage with the artist’s expansive archival research into BP’s archives to investigate the relationship between political economy of photography, archival technologies, and visual history of resource extraction in Iran. Sanaz Sohrabi will further unpack her essay film Scenes of Extraction and the expanded installation created specifically for the exhibition Extraction Out of Frame on view at VOX.

Presented in collaboration with the Raah-Media and Migration Lab, Concordia University.
